Don't get me wrong. I love the holidays. I love seeing friends and family and decorating the tree and house but I always love when the holidays are over. My house is "cozy" and sometimes with the decorations and tree up I feel slightly claustrophobic. It makes me sort of happy to take everything down and refresh my home with warm winter touches. For many people, this is a very tough time to decorate. After the decorations come down, the house feels empty and cold. Plus, you just spent way more than you should have on Christmas shopping and the idea of spending more on home decor can be daunting.
"Essentials for Winter Decorating"
Pillows: Here is where purchasing pillow covers comes in very handy. If you have a few neutral pillows in your rotation for all times then you just need to add seasonal ones to change things up in your space. Also keep different sizes on hand for a little added depth. Odd numbers rule here.
Texture is important too - try one or two with a woven or faux fur look. Then add linen, prints, or stripes. Think three different patterns.
Plants: Decorating coffee tables can be a challenge for many. During Winter months I always use greens as a staple. You can use real plants or many stores offer a wonderful selection of "fake" botanicals. If you live in the Midwest like me green is hard to find outside from December through March. Bring it inside to add some color and warmth. Add plants to your coffee tables, kitchen counter top, and even bedroom dresser.
Pops of Color: This can really bring you out of the doldrums. Think in terms of adding a little pop or accent of color to your room in a few areas to keep it connected. For example, blue in a pillow and then blue in a decorative accent on the coffee table.
